Unspoiled Uruguay”—a photo essay by Lee Thomas Kjos9 |
It’s May south of the equator—way south, near Chuy, Uruguay. Fall here means ducks have begun migrating north, and hunters have traveled down to meet them.
Like elsewhere, it’s early to rise, early to set up, early to wait for the sun to shed light on the marsh and the spread and the wings of incomers.
Yellow-billed pintails, speckled and silver teal, and Brazilian ducks. These are the birds buzzing the decoys, flaring, splashing into the drink.
Beautiful varieties that waterfowlers treasure.
And at day’s end when the ducks and empties are gathered, hunters leave with memories of unparallel shooting in unspoiled country. Of hunting the way it used to be…that they can’t wait to enjoy again.
