What Will I Need To Bring For Duck Hunting in Peru?

Nothing exotic. You will need a pair of chest waders and hip boots. We recommend both, so that you will be able to use only what you need. Our Duck hunting season begins in April, so we like to hunt areas where hip boots are acceptable, so that we can prevent our clients from getting hot. It can still be quite warm during that time of the year, so be kind to yourself and make the extra effort to bring both hip boots and waders. You will enjoy your trip much more this way. Leave your guns at home. Like all of our South American bird hunting trips, Los Gauchos provides Italian semi-autos at no additional charge.

Hunting In Peru – What Other Species Are Available?

In addition to ducks and dove hunting in Peru, Andean goose hunting is also popular. This is a trophy hunt, and it is not high volume, but this is the type of hunting in Peru where one can walk away with a once in a lifetime trophy. Most goose hunters will harvest two or four geese per day. The goose hunting guides will ask you to shoot the birds in pairs of two.

Viscachas – The Peruvian Prairie Dog!

For those who are so inclined, we offer the opportunity to shoot viscachas (a furry rodent-like animal) up at the high elevations where the Andean geese are hunted. Requests to hunt viscachas must be arranged in advance. Generally, a good day of viscacha hunting yields six to ten rodents, depending on one’s shooting ability.
