Uruguay Duck Hunting

Have you ever dreamed of a duck hunting paradise in a far away place that less than ½ of one percent of the world’s duck hunters can stake a claim? There are such places, and the small friendly nation of Uruguay is one of them.

In the flooded rice fields near the Brazilian border exists a custom made duck hunting lodge or as it has been accurately named: The Los Gauchos Uruguay Duck Hunting Club, so secluded that one will not only never hear a shot fired by another hunter, but not even the hint of the “hand of man”—not an airplane, truck, chainsaw, or any other type of noise pollution.

Even though hunting in Argentina gets all of the press—and rightfully so because it is such a great destination—Uruguay should be thought of not so much as Argentina’s little brother, but as a world class bird hunting destination in its own right. Bird hunting in Uruguay is not new; a select few adventurers have been hunting in Uruguay since the late seventies.

Short drives to the duck blinds:

The 200 square miles of wetlands surrounding our location are a wintering ground for hundreds of thousands of divers and puddle ducks. Luxurious accommodations in a unique rural setting:

Our Uruguay waterfowl hunting accommodations are located in a deluxe estancia/hotel. Los Gauchos hunts on 14,000 acres of private land.

Los Gauchos Outfitters has 2 lodges for the Uruguay duck hunting trips. The Uruguay Duck Hunting Club (Rio Branco) and the Uruguay Duck Hunting Lodge at Fortin near Chuy, Uruguay. The Fortin Lodge offers Uruguay duck hunting and Uruguay Perdiz hunting during the Perdiz hunting season. Perdiz hunting season in Uruguay is May throughout July. Fortin is located in a fabulous part of Uruguay with duck marshes and rice fields and farms that the Uruguay ducks know and love.

Between hunts, guests will have a chance to meet real gauchos and watch them sheer sheep, train horses, and work cattle with their dogs. The gauchos also clean and package all of the ducks that are not given away to local farm workers. The remaining birds are frozen, and donated to a homeless shelter in Montevideo on a weekly basis.
