Quail Hunting in Argentina

Los Gauchos now offers wild quail hunting in the beautiful Patagonia region of Southern Argentina. Valley Quail were introduced here over twenty years ago, and they have thrived in the local habitat—which could be compared closely in terrain and climate with Northern New Mexico.

This quail hunting vacation features easy walk up shooting over well-trained pointers. All of the guides are SCI certified, and speak English fluently—a rare commodity at most Argentina hunting lodges. Unlike Mexico quail hunting, this shooting is not high volume—the daily bag limit is 15 birds per day, per hunter. However, like quail hunting in Mexico, there are no pen-raised birds here.

What more could one ask for? All of the birds are wild, and the drives to the field are short. The breathtaking views of the Andes mountains in the background set the stage for a unique quail hunting experience. Gauchos (loosely translated as Argentine cowboys) are often seen riding the range, working horses and cattle. While quail hunting, one will often see large herds of Red Deer (stag) crossing the rivers and valleys.
The Red Stag are so plentiful, that these Argentina bird hunting trips are often combined with big game hunts for Red Stag (rifle or archery), and wild European boar—which are all available to you while you are quail hunting. You can mix and match what you wish to hunt during a week’s stay. The Argentina quail hunting season begins in May and lasts until the end of July.
This magnificent Estancia, owned by H. Ward Lay (think Frito-Lay) is one of the largest, and most opulent in all of Argentina. The private ranch is an astounding 240,000 private acres, and is located at the confluence of Argentina’s three most prolific fly fishing rivers—the Limay, Calefu, and the Collun Cura.
The estancia has 7 private rooms available (double occupancy is standard, however private rooms are available for an additional fee) for hunters and non-hunting guests, and a private dining hall—separate from the main house. This is one of the best destinations available to bring your entire family. Miles and miles of hiking trails and horseback riding are available on a daily basis to non-shooting guests and children.
The gourmet cuisine and wine list at this lodge can only be described as magnificent. In fact, it is safe to say that the fine dining rivals any five star hotel or resort. Mr. Lay has selected a highly experienced staff, one being a former hospitality manager of the famous Llao Llao resort, the only five star resort in Bariloche—Argentina’s most famous skiing destination.
There is simply no way to do justice to this destination with words. This estancia offers the ultimate in comfort and luxury, with no expense spared on any detail: vehicles, equipment, food, wine, and accommodations—you name it. This is without exception, the destination for the discriminating international wingshooter, fly fisherman, and Red Stag hunter that demands the best.
