Below we invite you to read all about this shooting program. Our great success is founded on delivering exactly what we say we will—so although you will find our descriptions lengthy—they are completely accurate and thorough. Don’t leave anything to chance! |
|
| With Los Gauchos Outfitters, our guests will experience bird hunting in Argentina that is on par with any other high-volume destination in the world. Our access to over 70,000 private acres of corn, sunflower, and wheat fields ensures great goose hunting in Argentina every day of the season. The Argentina duck and goose hunting seasons (wintertime in the Southern Hemisphere) run from May 1st – August 1st. |
| In addition to the vast cultivated fields, there are many nearby potholes and lakes—which are legally baited with rice and corn on a daily basis—ensuring superb duck hunting for puddlers, and divers alike. Shooters can expect to harvest as many as seven species of ducks, but possibly more (Rosybilled Pochard, Yellow Billed Pintail, Cinnamon Teal, Silver Teal, Speckled Teal, Chiloe Widgeon, and Red Shoveler, and possibly White-Faced Tree ducks, White Cheek Pintails, and Black Headed ducks). |
| The afternoons offer low volume pigeon hunting or busy walk-up shooting for Perdiz over well trained German Shorthaired Pointers, and fast moving English Setters. While pigeon hunting in Argentina is a high-volume affair in some parts of the country, in our area, one should only expect to shoot a few boxes of shells per afternoon. |
Accommodations: Location. Location. Location. |
| Often times, luxurious accommodations and great waterfowl hunting are mutually exclusive experiences—not at Los Gauchos. Our brand new duck hunting lodge was built in 2004 especially for the traveling wildfowler. |
| A fifth room is available for couples, complete with a queen size bed and private bath. There is also a huge Great Room with a fabulous bar, a big fireplace, and even a private business center with phone, fax, and free high speed internet. With leftover bricks and roofing material we constructed an outstanding dog kennel featuring individual dog houses (they match the lodge) and a long run for each animal. |
| Our new lodge sits on a 12 acre lot, located just two minutes from the intersection of three major highways, and right in the heart of the region’s largest wintering area for Ashy headed geese, Magellan geese, and hundreds of thousands of ducks—the county of Coronel, Pringles. |
| This new location offers us the ability to access hunting areas that are unreachable (unless they drive two hours) by outfitters that utilize lodging facilities in rural areas. Our average drive time to the field is only thirty minutes. Those of you that goose hunt often—and do diligent scouting, know that is close. |
“O.K. Why is this such a big deal?” |
| Here is a primer: All too often in this part of Argentina, the “estancias” available for rent to outfitters are typically just turn of the century old clapped-out country farmhouses. Many have only a noisy diesel generator to power the entire house, only fireplaces for heat, and a single bathroom that must be shared by all the guests. We know, because we started in one of these “estancias”… |
| But hey, this is duck hunting right? We are used to old fashioned duck camps, and humble accommodations! The thing is, that is not the worst part of the country farmhouse equation. The big down side is that they are often located fifteen miles or so from any form of pavement. This means you spend at least a cumulative hour of your day—every day—bouncing down dirt roads, just to get to the paved highway, so you can drive out the hunting areas. After periods of heavy rainfall, you might spend closer to two hours a day on those dirt (now muddy) roads. That is a bad deal. |
Meals: |
| Fine cuisine is prepared daily by our live-in gourmet chef. Meals consist of both local Argentine fare, and the wild game that you harvest. Lunches are typically an Argentine asado (grilled meat over a wood fire) consisting of the grass-fed local beef that the country is so famous for, along with free-ranging pork and poultry—served with huge salads, and loaves of fresh bread. Beef is served at dinner in the form of filet mignon, in addition to cannelloni, wood fired Sicilian style pizzas, and brochettes of Perdiz. All of the meals are complemented by rich desserts, and fine Argentine wines. |
Trip details: |
| These Argentina bird hunting trips are a Friday to Saturday, or a Saturday to Saturday trip, depending on whether or not you intend to stay a night in Buenos Aires. |
| Expect to leave the USA on a Friday or a Saturday, and take a non-stop (overnight) flight from MIA, JFK, or DFW to the great city of Buenos Aires—known as the Paris of South America. You will be met at the police station in baggage claim (if you are bringing your hunting shotguns), or just outside of customs (if you are not carrying) by a member of the Los Gauchos Staff. |
| While not at all obligatory, most clients elect to begin their Argentina hunting trip by staying the night on Saturday at one of the city’s many luxurious hotels—where one can take in all the sights, and enjoy the great steakhouses, Tango shows, local shops, and superb nightlife. |
| The following day (or same day if no stay in BSAS is planned) guests will take an early afternoon flight (approximately 50 minutes on a Boeing 737) from Buenos Aires to the city of Bahia Blanca. There, you will be met by the Los Gauchos staff and transported to the hunting lodge (1:15 in a van, all on a paved highway). |
| There is no minimum group size (individual hunters are welcome), but parties are limited to a maximum of six shooters per week. If a group wishes to book one of our South American hunting lodges privately, there must be a minimum of six shooters in the party. In Argentina we are fully capable of hosting eight guests; but we do so for private parties only, please call for details. |
| All guests arrive at the lodge on Sunday night for dinner, begin hunting on Monday morning—and finish on Thursday, or Friday morning. The 3.5, 4, or 4.5 days of hunting will alternate between ducks or geese in the morning and then Perdiz, or pigeon hunting in the afternoons. In order to protect our roosts we do not hunt waterfowl in the afternoon. This ensures solid shooting for all groups throughout the Argentina waterfowl hunting season. |
| After the Thursday morning hunt (for 3.5 day hunts), or the Friday morning hunt (for 4.5 day hunts), guests will take an afternoon flight back to Buenos Aires, where they make their connections back to the USA. Guests hunting 4-day programs may elect to leave early Friday morning, or Friday afternoon if desired. |
